04_Confession, A Biblical Walk through the Sacraments

Where is confession to a priest in the Bible? Everywhere! Throughout the Old Testament and into the New, God demonstrated His desire that we come to him when we fall into sin. Jesus gave the apostles power and authority over unclean spirits, to forgive sins, to heal, and to raise people from the dead, all of which testify to the power and authority in them through Christ. They, in turn, passed that power and authority to those whom they ordained. This power does not come from them, but from God. Confession restores the soul.

LOVE the Word® is a Bible study method based on Mary’s own practice: lectio without the Latin. Get the book based on Sonja’s method in the right margin, How to Pray Like Mary.

L – Listen (Receive the Word.)

O – Observe (Connect the passage to your life and recent events.)

Did the Holy Spirit convict you of sin through this show? Do you cherish sin in your thoughts, actions, or habits? What does He want you to do now?

V – Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.)

Perhaps you’d like to make a firm purpose of amendment to sin no more.

Remembering that He loves you and that you are in His presence, talk to God about the particulars of your O – Observe step. You may want to write your reflections in your LOVE the Word® journal. Or, get a free journal page and guide in the right-hand margin.

E – Entrust (May it be done to me according to your word!)

O Lord, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I fear the loss of heaven and the pangs of hell, but most of all, because You are all good and worthy of my love. I resolve, therefore, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.+

  1. I try to go to confession monthly. It really helps me to think about how I am living an d how I treat others. Our Lord thru confession has helped me thru this sacrament to red myself of some of my sin and I am truly grateful.

I also want to thank you for sharing your story concerning your father. I have someone in my life very much like your father and you have helped me so much. God bless you.
